Move videos from Loom to Cap
Download the MP4 files your plan allows. Cap does not pull your comments or your viewer list.
How long: An hour for a few videos. Longer for a big library.
Take it out
Step 1
Download each video
On Business, Business + AI, or Enterprise, open the video from your library. Choose Download. Loom's help page says the file is an MP4. The free Starter plan cannot download.
Step 2
Save the ones you still need
Comments stay in Loom. Download the videos people still open. Leave the Loom account up until those files are on your computer.
Put it in
Step 1
Install Cap
Cap's docs say the desktop app runs on Mac and Windows. Home use is free. Work use of the downloaded app needs a paid license. You can also run the web app with Docker Compose and point the desktop app at your own address.
Step 2
Share a new link
Record in Cap, or keep the MP4 where your team can get it. The Cap price page lists a Loom importer on Cap Pro. This guide did not run that importer.
What you lose
The free Loom plan
Starter cannot download. If that is your plan, you cannot take the files with you from inside Loom.
Comments and viewer counts
The MP4 is the picture and the sound. Comments, emoji, and viewer counts stay in Loom.
Work use of the Cap download
The app from Cap's download page needs a paid license for work. A copy you build from the code does not have that extra rule. Linux is not listed for the desktop app.
Start with the videos people still click. A full copy of every old link is how the move stalls.
