Move a site from Google Analytics to Plausible
Add the Plausible script, remove the Google tag, and start the charts from today. GA4 history does not import.
Time: Under an hour for one site, if you already control the tag.
Export
Step 1
Save the GA reports you still cite
Export the dashboards and explorations you mention in a monthly review. Plausible will not show last year.
Step 2
List custom events
Write down the GA4 event names that feed ads or a product dashboard. Each one needs a new trigger.
Step 3
Leave GA in place for a week
Run both tags during the overlap so you can see that Plausible is receiving traffic before you delete GA.
Import
Step 1
Add the site in Plausible
Create the site in Plausible Cloud or your Community Edition and copy the script tag.
Step 2
Install the script
Put it in the site head. If you use a consent manager, Plausible's default setup is cookie-free, which is usually why you can drop the analytics purpose. Confirm that with whoever owns your banner.
Step 3
Recreate goals
Add a goal for the signup or purchase you actually watch. Funnels are a paid cloud feature and are not in the Community Edition.
What breaks
Historical data
There is no GA4 import. The chart starts when the script does.
Ads audiences
Google Ads remarketing audiences do not exist in Plausible. If those audiences are the reason GA is installed, Plausible does not replace that job.
Explorations and BigQuery
Path explorations and a BigQuery export are GA features. Plausible's stats API is the closest hook, and it is not the same dataset.
Judge the new tool on a week of overlap, not on the first hour. Bot filtering and timezone settings are the usual reason day one looks 'wrong' next to GA4.
