Move from Canva to Penpot

Export

   Export SVG where the design is still vectors

   In Canva, download SVG for logos and simple layouts. Text may already be outlines. Also download PDF and PNG.

   Step 2

   Save brand colors and fonts

   Write down hex values and the font files. Canva's brand kit does not export as a Penpot library.

   Step 3

   Accept the template loss

   The thing you are leaving is the template and stock library. No tool on this site replaces it.

Import

   Step 1

   Import SVG into Penpot

   Create a project and import the SVG. Ungroup it and restyle the pieces you will reuse.

   Step 2

   Build a tiny library

   Put the logo, two type styles, and the colors into shared Penpot assets. That is the replacement for a brand kit.

   Step 3

   Use Affinity or Inkscape when Penpot is the wrong tool

   Penpot wins the score because of collaboration and self-hosting. A poster or a photo is a job for Affinity, Inkscape, or Photopea.

What breaks

• Templates, stock, and magic resize

  None of these exist in Penpot. Recreating a social set means new frames at the right sizes.

• Editable text

  Canva SVG exports often outline text. If you need to edit a headline, you will retype it.

• Video and background removal

  Short videos and one-click cutouts stay in Canva or move to a photo tool. Penpot does not do that job.
