Move meetings from Zoom to Jitsi Meet

Export

1. 1

   Step 1

   Download Zoom recordings

Cloud recordings live in Zoom. Download the ones you have to keep. Jitsi cannot fetch them.

2. 2

   Step 2

   Export the calendar events

You are not migrating a database. You are replacing a URL inside each recurring invite.

3. 3

   Step 3

   Decide hosted or self-hosted

meet.jit.si is the public service. Self-hosting is Apache-2.0 and is what you want if recordings or a private domain matter.

Import

1. 1

   Step 1

   Create the room

On meet.jit.si, pick a long room name and use a password. On your own server, set the domain and turn on authentication if the meetings are not public.

2. 2

   Step 2

   Replace the Zoom link

Edit the calendar event. Put the Jitsi URL in the location. Send one plain explanation: click the link, allow the microphone, no install.

3. 3

   Step 3

Add recording only if you host it

Jibri is the recording component. Do not promise recordings on meet.jit.si.

What breaks

• Webinars and huge rooms

Jitsi is a meeting tool. Registration pages, polls-as-a-product, and Zoom Webinar do not exist here.

• Cloud recording and transcripts

Old Zoom transcripts stay in Zoom. New recordings exist only after you deploy Jibri.

• Phone dial-in and breakout habits

Dial-in numbers do not come across. Breakout rooms exist in Jitsi and feel different. Hosts should try them once before a real workshop.
