Migrate from Airtable to Baserow

Move tables with Baserow's Airtable importer when your version includes it, and keep CSV export as the fallback. Interfaces and automations are rebuilt.

Time: A day for a base with a few tables. Longer when linked records and automations are the product.

Parts of this guide depend on a product screen that moves between releases. The fallback path in the steps is the one to trust.

Export

  1. Step 1

    Duplicate the base

Work from a duplicate if the live base is still being edited. In Airtable, export each table as CSV as the backup even if you plan to use an importer.

  2. Step 2

    Write down linked fields

The CSV of a linked record is names or ids, not a live relation. You will check those after import.

  3. Step 3

    List automations and interfaces

They do not move. Screenshot the ones that send email or create records.

Import

  1. Step 1

Use the Airtable importer if it is there

Baserow has offered an Airtable import. Confirm it in the version you installed, because this guide is unverified against a specific release.

  2. Step 2

    Or import CSV per table

Create the fields first, then import. Re-link records after both tables exist.

  3. Step 3

    Rebuild the views people open

Grid, kanban, and forms exist in Baserow. Recreate the filters. Do not expect Airtable Interfaces to appear.

What breaks

  • Interfaces and automations

The no-code apps built on top of the base stay in Airtable. So do automation runs.

  • Field types

Formulas, lookups, and rollups need to be recreated and will not all have the same functions.

  • Permissions

Share links and per-field permissions are set up again. The MIT core does not include every commercial permission feature.

Keep the CSV exports. They are readable in a spreadsheet if Baserow turns out to be the wrong shape for one of the tables.
