Roundcube

Roundcube is a webmail client: inbox, folders, filters, and an address book in the browser. It sits in front of an IMAP server. The core is GPL-3.0 or later, with an exception so skins and plugins that only call Roundcube are not treated as modifications.

The webmail software is free. You still need an IMAP host.

Self-host

Moderate. PHP, a database, and an existing IMAP server. This is the client install, not a mail exchanger. About $5–10/mo if it shares a small VPS with the mail server. Unverified estimate.
